Fun Factory USA brings affordable, quality items to a wider audience

It’s always been the American dream to have something that is all your own, that you created from nothing and turned into something really successful.

It’s similar to the dream many foreign creators of pleasure products have. They dream of bridging the gap between European or Asian countries and the Americas, and having as many people as possible enjoy their products.

That’s how it was for Fun Factory GmbH, headquartered in Bremen, Germany, since 1996. It wasn’t long before the dream of coming to America became a reality.

“We knew there was a market for our products here and it was the right timing since the adult industry and especially female customers were ready for a more non-pornographic and non-offensive look, as well as a more mainstream look of toys,” said Rudy Kottbauer, chief marketing officer of Fun Factory USA, located in Burbank, Calif., the importer and main distributor of high-quality vibrators and other intimate personal products made in Germany. “Also, because of the time lag and the distance, it was important to have a location here in the States. A lot of work needed to be done in terms of branding and product awareness for Fun Factory, which could not have been done in the same way with an independent distributor.”

Kottbauer and Christian Trinker, CEO of Fun Factory USA, were tapped to head the new venture. In true American dream fashion, they started small, initially working out of a house in Pasadena, Calif., and using a 1992 Jeep Cherokee for deliveries.

“The owner of Fun Factory in Germany was looking for the right fit of people who would be able to build a subsidiary in the U.S. and the other Americas [from Canada to Argentina],” Kottbauer told AVN. “Since Chris and I already had employment experience in the U.S.A. [working for a delivery company called Pink Dot], and since we are Austrian [and] also understood how to do business in Europe, we seemed to be a good fit for the company. Also, prior to Fun Factory, Chris had already worked in the industry for Topco Sales.”

Another point in the duo’s favor was the fact they had already lived in the greater Los Angeles area and were familiar with the city and the role of the adult industry here.

Once the people were in place, it was simply a matter of getting out the word about Fun Factory’s product range. The company prides itself on creating toys for adults that feature softer looks and flowing, unique designs. It’s the designs and quality that have helped Fun Factory make an impact not only among fans and customers, but critics as well.

“In 2003 and 2004, and even the following years, no toy looked liked ours in terms of colors and look,” Kottbauer said. “I remember that I heard people saying that we will be never able to sell such ‘funny’ looking vibrators, but little did they know. And look around: Everybody wants to look like our vibrators now. Copycats are everywhere, but we take it as a compliment.”

In terms of quality, Kottbauer noted, Fun Factory was one of the first companies to use 100 percent medical-grade silicone, a trend that many companies caught on to in the succeeding years.

And design organizations have for some time lauded the form and function of Fun Factory toys.

The DeLight vibrator won the reddot design award in 2008—the first erotic toy ever to gain such an honor—and also was nominated by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology for the Design Prize 2009. The iF product design award marked the fourth commendation the DeLight received for design.

More recently, the international jury for the iF product design awards 2010 awarded three Fun Factory products the internationally renowned prize for design. The vibrators DeLight and BiMiNi FLASH, as well as the vaginal balls SMARTBALLS Teneo duo, stood out in the category “Leisure/Lifestyle” with their expressive forms.

But sitting back and drinking in the accolades is not what the heads of Fun Factory have in mind. Rather, they intend to keep pushing forward.

“Innovations, innovations, and again innovations, such as our new generation of rechargeable Click ’n’ Charge vibrators,” Kottbauer said, referring to three new vibes that were launched at the Adult Entertainment Expo in January. The environmentally friendly vibes are powered by a magnetic universal recharging plug instead of disposable batteries. “That is the only way to keep a leading role in the industry.”

After being notified of a complaint, domain owners will have seven days to respond before service is cut off

MOSCOW—Russian hosting companies, in conjunction with the Interior Ministry, have pledged to get tougher on sites hosting child pornography and promoting hate speech. The pledge came in the form of a declaration signed Friday by some of the country's major hosting companies, according to Web Host Industry Review.

"When a complaint about improper content is received by a hosting company, the companies have agreed to send the complaint to the proprietor of the site in question, and cut off the site if a response is not received within seven days," reported thewhir.com.

There are some potential concerns, however. Hosting providers will have the right to inform police about the complaint, and "what constitutes 'hate speech' may cause problems, since it appears that web hosts will be able to decide which sites are appropriate, and which ones constitute hate."

The fact that the Interior Ministry, which oversees the police forces, helped draft the declaration does little to lessen concerns that having providing hosts with this sort of government-sanctioned authority will be good for the "democratic elements of the Internet."

On the other hand, any increased efforts taken by the Russians to address the number of sites hosted in the country that contain images of child sexual abuse is welcome, as the country is second only to the United States in that dubious distinction.

CHATSWORTH, Calif.—As any actor can tell you, the secret to comedy is ... wait for it, wait a little longer for it, aaahhhh, wait just a li-i-i-i-tle longer ... timing.

It’s something the Conners—Roseanne Barr and screen hubby John Goodman—had down to a science, and it’s something the performers in this latest ’80s TV show parody strive for, and sometimes even succeed at.

Fortunately, the Roseanne XXX production is headed by veteran comedy director Jim Enright, who isn’t afraid to have his actors do multiple takes of dialogue scenes, looking for the best-delivered lines from each performer, which he can then meld into a lively, well-timed laugh fest.

The movie is based around Thanksgiving at the Conner household, with self-described “late starter” actress (and popular social-networking personality) Kelly Shibari essaying the role of household head Roseanne Conner; Tim Von Swine as her long-suffering husband, Dan; Violet Monroe and Jules Sterling as daughters Darlene and Becky; Kris Slater as Darlene’s long-suffering boyfriend, David; and Kayla Paige as Roseanne’s sister, Jackie.

But aside from the casting of an Asian-American as the quintessential redneck housewife, Shibari is also the first “big beautiful woman” to star in a XXX parody.

“I’m 37, so I grew up watching Roseanne,” Shibari told AVN. “I watched the very first episode, pretty much all the way through. She’s a broad, not like a girl or a woman or a lady; she’s always been this type of woman that I consider a ‘broad.’ She doesn’t pull any punches. Unlike her, I’m very quiet—although I have plenty of ex-boyfriends that’ll probably tell me Roseanne is a perfect fit.”

But Shibari’s proud of being cast in part because of her body type.

“This is the first mainstream parody film that has a BBW as the lead character,” she noted. “There have been a couple of BBW parodies but they cast the entire film with BBW girls, including the skinny characters. I’m definitely honored to have been asked to be the first BBW to star alone, so I’m hoping that leads to other—not just parodies but films in general that have both skinny and big girls.”

AVN was present for two sex scenes. In the first, “Roseanne” and “Dan” decide to “make a baby,” which involves the black-corseted beauty letting him take her doggie and mish, snuggling up in spoon position, and finally riding him cowgirl style before the splooge.

In the second, Slater’s “David” gets back at pouty redhead Monroe’s “Darlene” for all the insults she’s hurled at him at the dinner table by making her work for her pleasure in reverse cowgirl, then throwing her on the couch and plunging her doggie style and missionarily.

The day actually ended early—around 9:30 p.m.—allowing Shibari to sneak in a little more computer time.
“I’m a cheesy dork in my personal life, a dorky nerd,” she sighed.

Evan Stone mixes it up with tatted BurningAngel girls

But does the new rule apply to ice cream trucks, too?

COLLINSVILLE, Ill.—Monday, the city council of the horseradish capital of the world, Collinsville, cried bloody murder against some spicy behavior headed its way—namely, the roving "strippermobile," which had been spotted not within the township, but nearby.

The van-type vehicle was apparently promoting adult entertainment businesses in the area with scantily clad strippers dancing behind glass. The police hadn't actually seen it but city hall had gotten a few calls.

An ordinance banning the activity was drafted that would "prohibit all instances of live entertainment or performances or advertising in, on or emanating from a vehicle or trailer which is moving or momentarily stopped on the street in the city of Collinsville."

When the matter came up during the May 24 city council meeting, chaired by Mayor John Miller, the proposed language was read by the clerk and quickly approved. The police chief, Scott Williams, was asked to give an overview of the situation.

"It's my job to inform the council that this is not a joke," he said, laugher sweeping the room. "If you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them." Everyone knew what was going on. Even the mayor chuckled.

One councilwoman was not amused. She mentioned the time a few years back when they had tried the same thing, and had even driven by some schools as the kids were coming out with. It was "sick and wrong,' she said, adding, "And I've talked with at least one person whose little child said, 'Mommy, what are they doing?' And, you know, just to have that kind of exposure out there. And not just to kids, but to others that really don't care to see it."

The mayor was upset, too. "I mentioned to the city manager this afternoon. I said, it's really bad when the city council has to adopt an ordinance such as this, when it's such terrible, non-family-oriented type of advertisement in a community. But I'm glad we're doing it to keep this out of our community."

The same councilwoman had a warning for Collinsville. "And lest anyone think that, gosh, it will go away or that sort of thing," she said, "I would just call your attention to ... I saw an article, I think towards the end of last year about a community on the West Coast—go figure—that had passed an ordinance that allowed people to walk nude around the community. So sometimes it is the salami and the string thing—we'll just nibble a little here and how much you put up with. So lest anything think that we're acting maybe a little more strongly than we should, some things that you would have thought a few years ago would absolutely be impossible to happen in this country, are happening."

Murmurs of agreement, after which the roll call was taken, and the motion passed unanimously. "Definitely, yes," said the mayor, casting the final vote.

However, considering the (hastily written?) language of the ordinance—prohibiting "all instances of ... advertising in, on or emanating from a vehicle or trailer which is moving or momentarily stopped ..."—won't any trucks, buses or cars with advertising on them now be prohibited, even those that roll slowly through the neighborhood calling kids out to buy?

Did the "strippermobile" just kill the Collinsville ice cream truck?

They were an odd couple: a porn star whose sexual partners number over 2,000 and a former child star who was a real-life 40-year-old virgin. But when news hit about the death of former child star Gary Coleman, his passing struck up some fond remembrances for Ron Jeremy.

“I loved his smile,” said Jeremy, who worked with the diminutive star of Diff’rent Strokes professionally in four projects.

“Getting to know Coleman wasn’t easy," Jeremy told AVN. “Gary was very serious sometimes. ... If he didn’t know you, he’d say hi and just keep walking. ... He didn’t want to spend a lot of time with people he didn’t know.”

Underneath that shy exterior was a playful soul. “He loved toys,” Jeremy said. “He didn’t experience a real childhood,” he added, as explanation for why Coleman found such satisfaction in such pursuits as playing with model trains.

The differences between the unlikely partners were highlighted when they both appeared on The Weakest Link in 2002. Talking about their stint on the game show, Jeremy recalled, “I voted him off, and then Corey Feldman voted me off. That was the show where after Annie announced that I had been with thousands of women, Gary said, ‘I’m the opposite of Ron Jeremy—I’m a virgin.’ ”

And, added Jeremy, Coleman was “happy to be so.”

Coleman also shared a television set with Jeremy in 2004, when the porn star was on The Surreal Life with an oddball assortment of characters that included Tammy Faye Messner (formerly Bakker), Vanilla Ice and Erik Estrada. Gary Coleman had a guest-starring role, but he stormed off the set. According to Jeremy, Coleman was annoyed when Vanilla Ice repeatedly repeated Coleman’s catch phrase from Diff’rent Strokes, “Whatchu talking’ ’bout, Willis?”

Most recently, Jeremy and Coleman acted together in Midgets vs. Mascots, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2009. Jeremy served as narrator on the film, a mockumentary about a very short porn star (not played by Coleman). The film, which Jeremy says “is available at Blockbuster right now,” also features porn star Sunny Lane.

But Jeremy’s favorite collaboration with Coleman was their first: working on Kid Rock’s “Cowboy” music video, in which Coleman and Kid Rock’s sidekick Joe C. engaged in a gun battle while Jeremy played the piano. “Anybody can see it right now,” Jeremy said, noting the video can be found on YouTube.

“We used to joke around,” Jeremy said, but Coleman had a very serious side. “He didn’t believe he could separate romance and sex. He asked me, ‘How could you make these movies—you don’t really love these girls?"

Laughing, the adult legend recalled telling Coleman that if he wanted to “learn how to separate the two,” Jeremy would give him a chance to star in a porn movie.

“No thanks,” Jeremy said the actor told him, adding gently, “I don’t believe he ever saw [a porn movie], and that’s totally fine.”

'Focus/Refocus' takes Best Movie at 19th annual awards

CHICAGO—The 19th Annual Grabby Erotic Video Awards took place Saturday night at Park West, followed by the Grabby Blackout Party. Adam Killian and Tony Buff received Performer of the Year nods and Best Newcomer went to Austin Wilde and Samuel Colt. 

"I am really proud of our studio—Kent, Tony, Steve, Ben, Bruno and all the guys who make our company what it is," said Raging Stallion President Chris Ward, commenting on the studio's eight awards. "I really also have to thank the wonderful actors who over the past year put on some amazing shows for us. RUFF Doggie Styles makes a long, strange trip into adult

While most people in the adult pleasure product business have an interesting story behind their foray into this world, Kris Lynch’s journey has so many twists, turns and unexpected tumbles that even having a map and compass might not help you keep up.

The RUFF Doggie Styles entrepreneur loves to joke that she started out as a designer of toys for little girls before making the leap to create toys for big girls. Originally a toy designer for Mattel, Lynch at one time headed the design department for all girl toys except the iconic Barbie Doll. Under her reign, the company launched Skateboard Shannon, the first radio-controlled doll for girls. And when she was recruited to the West Coast as a vice president of girls’ toy design, she spearheaded the Casey Cartwheel and Baby Tumbles Surprise, which were the No. 1 large dolls for five consecutive years.

Ironically, it was her role with Mattel that first introduced her to adult novelties.

“When I was working in the toy biz, my boss wanted a doll that little girls could play with in the tub, so we designed a doll that would shiver when you take her out of the water, but as soon as you touched her toe to the water she would stop shivering,” Lynch said. “Anyway, to make the shiver motion, I researched the motors of vibes, shopped a well-known boutique on 57th Street in NYC, purchased a few, and actually used them on the inside of the doll’s torso for my first prototypes.”

Eventually, though, the laid-back atmosphere of sunny Southern California couldn’t compete with the love affair Lynch had with New York City, so she left Mattel and returned to her roots. As fortune would have it, she again spotted a need and created a company to fill it.

“RUFF Doggie started as a puppy-doggie collar/leash and toy company in 1999,” she said. “We were concentrating on designs for small dogs. We had a small, teeny-tiny Yorkie and couldn’t find any toys small enough for her mouth. That was the spark behind RUFF Doggie: RUFF Puppy.”

The company did well enough, but Lynch was reviewing the numbers one day and noticed a trend. One customer in particular was responsible for 30 percent of the company’s sales, but only purchased four styles of collars and leashes, and in only one size.

“Regardless of how many samples of the little puppy toys or other sized collars we sent to them, they would only purchase the same style over and over,” Lynch told AVN. “I finally asked them why. Well, they weren’t a doggie boutique at all; they were an adult boutique.”

That realization eight years ago is what really got Lynch interested in the adult industry.

“The packaging and color palettes of the products and for the stores themselves were quite different then, especially the leather section,” she said. “That was very scary: heavy, black and honestly intimidating. So I had an idea to bring more fashion and design to this category and make the items for couples, for naughty couples who would appreciate quality and style, but in a non-intimidating way. And that’s when a new division was created: RUFF Doggie Styles.”

RUFF Doggie Styles’ floggers, paddles and the like might be more delicate in appearance—rose petals of leather at the end of a flogger, paddles with cute little kitty faces—but the quality cannot be denied. And Lynch is willing to do everything she can to keep the designs updated and upbeat.

“To stay fresh and keep my thumb on the pulse of fashion, trends, new materials and manufacturing methods, I am an adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology, one of the leading fashion universities in the world,” she said. “I have the strength and talent and inspiration of my mom inside me. She was a prestigious couture designer on Seventh Avenue and exposed me to all layers of design and the arts, and how to look beyond what is expected for a particular item to look or feel like, and to bring my own vision and experiences from my previous positions and career into every item I design.

“Another class I teach at FIT is Looking Back to Stay Ahead of Your Competition, and in that class we review the patterns, textiles and details and companies of yesteryear,” Lynch continued. “They are amazing pieces that are still classic and wearable today. I am inspired by the past: the fashions, colors, boudoir, pin-ups, deco … and you will find hints of all of that in RUFF Doggie Styles.”

Shyla Stylez is a “country girl” at heart who has made it big in the city. Her eventful, eight-year adult career is going as strong as ever with the recent launch of her official website.

Party to celebrate the beginning of summer and the end of "Don't Ask, don't tell" will take place Sunday in San Diego

"If someone wants to serve and is in harm's way in defense of the country, it shouldn't matter whether they're straight or gay. While this isn't the focus of the event, we hope people will think about what a more inclusive armed forces will mean for military readiness," she said.

SAN FRANCISCO—A U.S. District Court has awarded Titan Media more than $1.35 million in damages from a tube-site operator whose users infringed the gay adult studio’s intellectual property rights.

In addition, Judge Maxine M. Chesney issued a permanent injunction barring Antelope Media LLC and its owners, representatives and subsidiaries from making any further infringing use of Titan’s property to line their own pockets with advertising revenues and membership fees.

In order to give Titan an opportunity to collect on the summary judgment—rendered in default after the defendants failed to respond to Titan’s lawsuit—Chesney also permanently enjoined Antelope and its associates from transferring domain names and proceeds from domain operations until the judgment has been satisfied in full.

“This ruling clearly shows that the financial and monetary benefits of advertising, affiliate program commissions, and charging membership fee for access quashes the tube sites’ defense as an internet service provider,” Titan Vice President Keith Webb said. “Once you profit directly from the infringement, you become liable for the infringement itself.

“Without income streams adult tube sites cannot survive,” he added. “With income streams they become liable for the content they are profiting from. Doesn’t sound like a very good position to be in these days.”

Titan filed the copyright-infringement suit last year and served German citizens Thorsten Palicki and Maik Herrmann with court documents in August while the men were on U.S. soil at the Internext trade show in Hollywood, Fla. According to General Counsel Gill Sperlein, Titan filed the original lawsuit in August 2008 and had been chasing Palicki and Herrmann through an evolving web of shell companies until it caught up with them at Internext.

The amended complaint with which Palicki and Herrmann were served is the third to be submitted to the court and the first to name the two men as respondents. Previously, as soon as Titan served the corporate entities listed as the owners of MonsterCockTube, the corporations dissolved and ownership of the website was transferred to another business entity in a new country, Sperlein told AVN. In every case, the new corporation was owned or controlled at least in part by Palicki and Herrmann.

When the suit originally was filed, MonsterCockTube was owned by Antelope Media LLC of Arizona. Antelope dissolved nine days after being served, and MonsterCockTube was transferred to a British company, Sunrise Media Ltd., which disappeared when ownership was transferred to the current domain registrant, Newhaven, located in The Netherlands.

In her ruling, the judge called Antelope’s infringement “particularly egregious.”

“First, defendants gained commercial advantage by using plaintiff’s copyrighted works, specifically, by displaying plaintiff’s works on defendants’ websites, for which they charge their customers, including California residents, a monthly access fee, and on which they earn revenue by selling advertising space, and by enrolling in ‘affiliate programs through which [d]efendants receive payments for directing individuals to other websites,” Chesney wrote.

“Second, defendants, within a week of learning of the instant lawsuit, transferred ownership of their websites to fictitious names, in an apparent attempt to evade service and hinder plaintiff’s ability to locate and identify the infringing parties,” she continued. “Third, defendants have continued their infringing activities after being notified of the instant action. Fourth, defendants engaged in various technological steps to block plaintiff from gaining access to defendants’ websites, in an apparent attempt to prohibit plaintiff from learning the full extent of the infringing conduct.”

Perhaps most offensive to the judge was the defendants’ repeated attempts to hide their assets. Even though Herrmann and Palicki are foreign nationals, their first company was registered and based in Arizona. Not until MonsterCockTube.com ran afoul of American intellectual property law did Herrmann and Palicki intentionally bankrupt the company by transferring its assets to shells in European nations. That, noted Chesney, was a clear-cut violation of California’s Uniform Fraudulent Transfer Act.

“[G]iven that defendants fraudulently transferred ownership of the domain names from a domestic company, which could have been readily located, to companies and individuals residing outside the United States, it is readily apparent defendants were attempting to preclude or at least make it considerably more difficult for plaintiff to locate any party against whom a judgment could be executed,” Chesney wrote. “Under such circumstances, and given that plaintiff apparently is aware of the current location of the entities who presently own the domain names, the Court finds it appropriate to prohibit defendants from further transferring ownership of the domain names, or the proceeds thereof, and the record discloses no equitable reason why plaintiff should not be granted [injunctive] relief.”

The lawsuit may turn out to be the least of the German men’s woes. Reportedly well-known and liked within the gay adult industry, Palicki and Herrmann also own and operate the AlphaMaleCash affiliate program. Prior to service of the lawsuit, the connection between AlphaMaleCash and MonsterCockTube was not common knowledge. Subsequently, several large affiliate programs cut their ties to AlphaMaleCash.

Neither Herrmann, Palicki, nor any other representative from AlphaMaleCash or MonsterCockTube has responded to GAYVN’s repeated requests for comment.

PRAGUE—Just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend in the U.S., Czech gay adult studio BelAmi will release the video from what is believed to be the largest circle jerk in the history of gay porn. Featuring 27 young European guys, 27 cumshots and 18 feet of cock, the video is so long and detailed the studio decided to release it online in two parts.

According to a studio spokesman, the unprecedented scene began on one of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa and wrapped inside a luxury villa in Cape Town. MACAU—China may have a big problem with internet porn but it still loves the bunny. Casino operator Sands China announced Thursday a licensing deal with Playboy for two projects planned for Macao, Asia’s gambling Mecca.

“Playboy Club Macao will open by the end of the year, a 12,000-square-foot entertainment area at the top of Sands Macao casino,” reported the Associated Press. “The club will have private entertainment and media rooms, gaming rooms and a lounge for which Playboy Clubs are known.”

A clone of the famous Playboy Manse in Los Angeles will be constructed on Macao's Cotai Strip. “The 30,000-square-foot Playboy Mansion Macao … will have bars, lounges, [a] nightclub, gaming and retail stores,” said the AP. The Mansion is slated to open in the first quarter of 2012.

Macau is one of two special administrative regions in the People’s Republic of China. The other is Hong Kong.

Proposed ban would cover all digital distribution channels, including television, mobile and internet

CAPE TOWN, South Africa—Like dominoes, countries are continuing to fall victim to the idea of censoring all pornography. Unlikely compatriots as role models for the trend, Australia and China are the poster countries for sweeping bans on sexual expression. South Africa is now considering following them down the rabbit hole.

According to the BBC, “Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba has approached the country's Law Reform Commission to ask whether a change in the law is possible.”

Gigaba wants a complete ban on digitally distributed porn that would include television, mobile devices and the internet.

"Cars are already provided with brakes and seatbelts. ... There is no reason why the internet should be provided without the necessary restrictive mechanisms built into it," reasoned Gigaba.

The article says, “Internet security experts have dismissed the idea as ‘madness,’” and cite Graham Cluley of the security firm Sophos, who told them previous attempts by other nations to ban pornography had not been successful.

"One wonders how on earth a democracy like South Africa would be able to introduce such a system, as it's not as though the state has 100 percent control over telecommunications," he told the BBC. "Although their intentions may be honorable, it's barking mad to think you will be able to completely outlaw pornography from the web which is, after all, the modern equivalent of the Wild West."

Or maybe the idea is simply barking mad.

Retailer wants to make a point about Vatican’s opposition to contraceptives

AMSTERDAM—A Dutch sex shop gave away 2,000 "Pope condoms" earlier this month in an effort to take a dig at the Roman Catholic Church.

De Condoomfabriek (The Condom Factory) told press reporters it wanted to make a point about sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies and the Vatican's opposition to contraceptives.

Last year, Pope Benedict XVI said that AIDS “cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which even aggravates the problem.”

A French condom manufacturer created the unholy rubbers, which come in a white wrapper that shows the Pontiff raising his hands in the air, above the phrase “I Said No!”

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif.—Robert Kovarik, better known as gay adult performer and producer Robert Van Damme, could face extradition to his native Czech Republic depending upon the outcome of a June 7 hearing.

Kovarik, 40, was arrested May 21 on domestic violence and contempt-of-court charges. Initially jailed under a $100,000 bond, he remains behind bars in Orange County, Calif.’s James A. Musick Facility on a detainment order issued by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“I can’t comment on what he’s wanted for abroad, because that’s not of a public record,” Nicole Navas, a spokeswoman for ICE in Miami, told SouthFloridaGayNews.com. “I can just confirm that ICE special agents placed a detainer on him.”

After taking the nom de porn "Robert Van Damme" in 2003, the married bodybuilder became a popular “gay-for-pay,” “power top” performer. Although “discovered” by Blue Blake Productions, Van Damme made his feature debut in Falcon Studios’ The Hunted.

Ironically, Van Damme has quite a history of portraying law-enforcement-type characters. In Hot House Entertainment’s Grabby Award-winning Justice, he performed a rather energetic cavity search on a young inmate, and most recently he inhabited the role of “The Guard” in Dominic Ford’s 3D gay title Whorrey Potter and the Sorcerer’s Balls.

In February 2009 Van Damme founded his own studio, RVD Films LLC, which streeted its first gay porn title, Robert Van Damme’s Private Party, in March of the same year. The studio reportedly is managed by his wife.

MIAMI—FlavaMen magazine’s annual Hot Body Contest and pool party typically takes place in Miami over Memorial Day weekend. However, because of scheduling conflicts with several of parent company Flava Works’ most popular models, the 2010 party has been moved to Washington, D.C.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla.—Collin O’Neal’s award-winning World of Men DVD line has a new sibling. Based on O’Neal’s jet-setter lifestyle, each title in the Cum Fly With… series will star the cover model in five scenes depicting international travel and fortuitous sexual encounters.

O’Neal explained the genesis of the idea: “I had to drive out to Charles de Gaulle [airport in Paris] to see a friend of mine, and it dawned on me that I need to start a series where a model is filmed coming out of an airport and possibly on board the plane before finding a hot guy in the city. The idea hit me so hard that I beckoned my business partner Rich over to Europe to have him film the first of the series. Rich agreed it was a great idea and was very excited about being able to fly from Paris to Prague to Sofia to Bucharest to Valencia with a day in each city.”

BARCELONA, Spain—Private Media Group has released comparative 2008-9 results, claiming an overall increase in new sales of 17 percent.

“For the year ended December 31, 2009, we reported net sales of EUR 23.1 million compared to EUR 19.7 million for the year ended 2008, an increase of EUR 3.4 million, or 17 percent. The increase was the result of increased internet sales offset by decreases in sales of DVD and magazines, broadcasting and wireless,” the company stated in a press release issued Wednesday. “Internet sales increased EUR 8.9 million to EUR 13.1 million, which represents an increase of 211 percent compared to the same period last year. The increase in Internet sales was the result of the acquisition of GameLink and Sureflix which contributed EUR 10.2 million and was offset by a decrease of EUR 1.3 million in our prior internet business.” The company added that the decrease was the result of a complete reorganization of the business as a result of the rebuilding of the Private websites.

While acknowledging that “the current state of the world economy and the impact of free adult content on the Internet” have impacted Private’s net sales and margins, the company said it expects internet, wireless and broadcasting sales to increase.

The company’s optimism is in large part due to its restructuring over the last year, including reducing its investment in its DVD library by 46 percent over the previous year, and also reducing the number of titles it released by 17 percent compared with 2008.

“Results indicated that a revised content strategy based on fewer releases and a different mix would have the desired effect on margins since, unlike our traditional business, digital new media distribution is mainly dependent on our expansive library and not on new releases,” said the announcement. “In reducing our investment in library, we also renegotiated content acquisition and post-production agreements with third parties on favorable conditions to us. We expect to maintain our revised content strategy going forward.”

Other changes involved restructuring the company’s affiliates programs, including bringing on new resources “highly skilled in affiliate traffic development and shifted our emphasis from account management towards sales. We have also developed solutions for critical new markets: gay, international and mobile. Furthermore, as a response to decreased margins in the adult entertainment industry, we have reviewed, analyzed and continued to restructure the operations of the non-online part of the business in order to become more cost effective.”

Going forward, the company says it will continue to put much of its focus on new media platforms, including IPTV and mobile.

”We are continuing to implement our new media strategy for growth of VOD (Video-on-Demand) via IPTV and to date we have contracted with 38 major platform operators in 24 countries in Europe, as the leading supplier of adult content, stated Private CFO Johan Gillborg. “Currently we have gained more than 75 percent coverage of the European IPTV market and across all platforms. Going forward, we expect to increase our market coverage in this expanding market.”

Private Media Group, which is traded on Nasdaq, closed Wednesday at $2/share, down 4.76 percent.
